Domestic Violence: Understanding the Signs and Finding Your Way to Safety
Domestic Violence

WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?
DV is when the abuser uses any of the below methods and more on their target to gain control and manipulation over them. It must be a romantic partner to qualify as DV
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE METHODS USED?
PHYSICAL ABUSE: Hitting, slapping, choking, any form of physical harm
EMOTIONAL ABUSE: This form undermines self-esteem through manipulation, gaslighting, humiliation, or constant criticism to tear their target down
SEXUAL ABUSE: Non-consensual sex acts or coercive behavior
FINANCIAL ABUSE: Abusers may control their partners by withholding or restricting financial assets
IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE FOR PEOPLE OF THE LOWER/MIDDLE CLASS?
No, Domestic Violence does not come in one size fits all, it affects people of all socio-economic classes, making it even more pervasive.
WHAT DO I DO IF CHARGED WITH THIS CRIME?
Call Victoria right away. She will walk you through this process from beginning to end starting with your first arraignment. DO NOT THROW AWAY MAIL FROM THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY!
You will be served with a protective order at your first arraignment. If you are still with your romantic partner, Victoria will try to have the court modify the CPO by asking the court to allow peaceful contact only. You would be surprised at how many of these motions Victoria gets granted!
Domestic violence is a wobbler, so if it charged as a felony, Victoria LITIGATE to get it reduced to a misdemeanor. If you are employed and have little to no criminal history, the motion will be granted. Once that occurs, Victoria will work on getting the case dismissed! She has a method for this as well. IT IS NOT HER FIRST RODEO.
